Recruitment in CAPFs and state forces

Eligibility, vacancies and preparation all start from one document: the advertisement for that post.

What “CAPF” covers

The Central Armed Police Forces include the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. Assam Rifles is often included when the government speaks about ex-Agniveer vacancies. State police and some state armed forces run their own recruitments. Each force publishes its own notice.

A past announcement is not an open form

The Ministry of Home Affairs has, in public announcements, set aside a share of constable vacancies for ex-Agniveers. That share is used when a recruitment is held. You apply to the notice that is live: it states the percentage, the age limit, the education bar, the physical standard and the states covered. If the notice does not mention ex-Agniveers, you compete on the ordinary rules, if you meet them.

What the papers usually ask for

  • Identity, education and domicile, as the notice lists them
  • Discharge or service documents, once your unit has issued them
  • Photographs and a signature in the size the form states
  • A medical history you can explain honestly

Physical standards differ by post and sometimes by gender and region. Train for the standard in the notice you are answering, not for a standard copied from a different force.
